Fabulous flooring

(NC)-Installing new flooring in the home is a worthwhile investment. It gives any room an instant upgrade since it's the first element many people notice when they walk into a room.

"Flooring is one of the most important features of a room," says Frank Turco, colour, trend and design manager at The Home Depot Canada. "It's a huge contributor to helping people achieve the look and feel they desire in each room of the home."

With so many diverse types of flooring available today, choosing the types best suited for your home can seem like a daunting task. To make your flooring decisions easier, The Home Depot Canada has put together a list of the most popular options available:

Hardwood. Hardwood provides a warm, natural atmosphere and can be durable if properly sealed. Maple and oak are the most popular choices.

Ceramic tile. Because of its resistance to moisture, odour, fire, stains, scratches and bacteria, ceramic tile is a popular choice for front entryways, kitchens and bathrooms. This type of flooring can be chilly on feet so consider laying down a rug to warm things up or installing in-floor heating before laying your tiles.

Laminate. For those with a limited budget, laminate is a great alternative to hardwood, tile or marble. One of its best features is the ability to replace damaged areas since this flooring is a collection of interlocking planks or squares glued together.

Carpet. This is one of the most popular flooring options for the home for many reasons. It's soft so it's easier on the joints, keeps feet warm, absorbs sound and can help protect kids when they stumble. Additionally, it's available in hundreds of colours, textures and is inexpensive to install.

Eco-chic. With a growing number of Canadians wanting to make their homes more environmentally friendly, there are a number of eco-friendly flooring options available at The Home Depot. Bamboo, natural stone, leather tiles and cork are just a few of the choices available today.

More flooring information, including a step-by-step tutorial on how-to install it, is available online at homedepot.ca.
